The Verulam Day
The Verulam day is designed to maximise boys’ concentration, so our students learn as effectively as possible. We teach a greater number of shorter lessons than many other schools, as research and our experience indicates that this benefits boys.
The Verulam day starts at 8.35am and ends at 3.30pm, except on Tuesdays when the day ends at 3pm. The day is divided into six 50-minute periods, broken by a 15 minute break at 10.45am and a 50 minute lunch at 12.45pm.
School starts with a 20 minute form period where pupils are registered for the day. Form time also allows form tutors to get to know their students, and to focus on pastoral issues.
Pupils in Years 7 to 11 must remain on the school site at break and lunchtime, unless parents have agreed otherwise with the school. In these cases, pupils must sign out at Student Reception before leaving.
Sixth form students may not leave the site at break, but may do so at lunchtime. They must sign out before leaving and sign back in upon their return.
