Sport
Extra-curricular competitive sport at Verulam School has always played an integral part of school life. All pupils are provided with opportunities to participate in competitive sport at an appropriate level. Experiencing team sport and individual physical activities are important in creating team spirit, positive relationships and pride in individual and team achievements beyond the academic curriculum.

The priority sports are Rugby (Autumn Term), Football (Spring Term) and Athletics (Summer Term). The opportunity to represent the school in competitive sport is usually limited to one team in each year group but we do provide B team opportunities when and where possible. Members of staff from other academic subjects sometimes volunteer to assist the full time PE teaching staff.
As well as the priority sports, we are very proud of its achievements and opportunities to participate in sports such as Cross-Country, Sailing, Badminton, Basketball, Golf, Table Tennis and Fencing.
The School’s sports facilities include four Rugby and/or Football pitches, a grass Cricket square, three artificial Cricket wickets (plus grass and artificial Cricket nets), Sports Hall, 400 metre grass running track. We are currently planning to provide a fitness suite which will enhance our overall offer.
Often our pupils will progress to represent County sides or higher in Rugby, Football, Cricket, Cross Country and Athletics.
The Inter-House programme offers further competitive opportunities for each pupil during curriculum enrichment days which are delivered throughout the academic year. All pupils are encouraged to participate at a level appropriate to them. Our annual “Verulympics” event takes place each summer and is the flagship of House Sport. We are currently offering 20 sporting activity within this offer.
The PE department offer 2 annual outdoor and adventurous trips. The annual ski trip is offered to pupils in Years 8, 9 and 10 and the Snowdonia Mountain Activity Trip is offered in Year 9.
