St Albans City Player Education Programme
The St Albans City Football Club Education Programme provides aspiring young footballers with the perfect opportunity to combine their academic studies with first-class football training.
The coaching syllabus and methodology, which has been architected by the Technical Director and the St Albans City Football Club coaching staff. The programme has been specifically designed to nurture sporting ability to the highest standard possible and improve the skills of all participants with an outstanding education. This will be achieved by providing our students with an excellent learning environment, combining a structured programme of classroom-based modules and practical on-field sessions.
Education
Verulam School is in an exclusive partnership with St Albans City FC to offer Sixth Form students’ options, which include A Levels, BTECs or a combination of both qualification styles. The individual will be a student-athlete with the focus being on education provision.
Football
Great development opportunities are provided with 6 to 8 hours of football training per week and games in the National Football Youth League. The strength and conditioning programme will help elevate football skills and heighten tactical awareness within the game.
Pathway
The 2-year programme opens doorways to amazing opportunities, including degrees in Physical Education, Sports Management, Sports Coaching & Development, US College Scholarships or entering full-time employment. The club will help guide players with their decisions.
How It Works
The St Albans City Football Club Player Education Programme is a 2-year course. Students will be working towards the successful completion of A level or BTEC qualifications. A normal week would involve the following:
- 20 hours of classroom-based study per week
- 6-8 hours elite training and coaching per week
- 1 game in the National Youth League per week
To enrol prospective students will need to be between 16 and 19 years old, have a grade 4 GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths, and meet the entry requirements for the courses that they wish to study at Verulam. The course selection process includes the following:
- Player Education Programme introduction
- Football open session
- Formal interview
Player Education Programme
The Player Education Programme offers you:
- Elite training with highly experienced coaches,
- First-class education, pathways into Continued and Higher Education, and
- Programme of strength and conditioning to help elevate your football skills.
You will also receive a St Albans City Football Club kit pack, which includes a home kit, an away kit, travelling tracksuit, and a training kit.
