Open Day Verulam Bake Off

Open Day is always an enjoyable event in meeting prospective students and being able to show off our best practice, friendly and warm welcoming environment and more importantly our outstanding students. As many would agree the secret to boys’ success is through their stomach. Thus, in geography we run an annual Verulam Boys Bake Off competition. The theme is geographical cakes and like years in the past this didn’t not fail to deliver. The bar I believe was raised again. All entries were astounding and judging was difficult (not the tasting).

But like all Bake offs there can only be one winners and this year the #VBBO winner is Etienne Carpenter’s Deforestation cake. The cakes was not only enjoyable and eaten with much delight the message that came with the cake was thought provoking. Etienne reminded us that the paper we use was once a tree in a forest or rainforest. A reminder that habitats and earth resources are at risk if we do not think sustainably about our future. This shows a great understanding of the environment we live in and the need to protect.

I would like to thank all pupils and parents who helped to make the cakes and I look forward to Year 7 stepping up to the plate in year 8 for #VBBO19.
