News from Mr Ramsey

I would like to bid farewell to the following staff who are leaving Verulam this term after much dedicated service. Mrs Miller, who has done so much for the study of mathematics at Verulam, leaves to take up post as Assistant Head at Wyckham High School where she will be leading their maths project. She will be missed by the tribe of eager ―mathemagicians‖ she has been instrumental in creating.

Mrs Quidder, is also leaving to take up post of Assistant Head at Watford University Technology College. Under her tenure, the English Department has risen to new heights and achieved some of the best examination results in the entire country.

I would also like to bid farewell to Mr Simms, our Finance Manager, who is retiring this summer. He has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that Verulam is always on a sound financial footing. He will be sorely missed.

Mr Davidson will be retiring after many years‘ distinguished service not only as leading computing and ICT but also as a stalwart as the school‘s Duke of Edinburgh scheme. Under his leadership, boys have been most fortunate to enjoy trips to New Zealand, Morocco, Iceland and destinations throughout the UK. His wisdom will also be missed on the school‘s ski trips.

Miss Godfrey leaves to continue her studies for an MA in Art. I would like to thank her for her inspirational leadership of the Art department.

Mr Cartwright leaves to take up a post at Watford Grammar School for Boys, whilst Ms Jeckells takes on a new role working at the Houses of Parliament. Dr Wheeler will be taking up a new science post at Sir Frederick Osborn.

I would also like to congratulate Ms Harrison and Mrs Moss who are leaving to begin teacher training.

I would also like to thank Mrs Cruse, Mrs Townsend and Mrs Samways for their service to the Science Department.

Finally I would like to wish all parents, pupils and staff a happy and relaxing summer.

My Child At School Update

I am pleased to say that the launch of the new parental eportal; ̳MyChildAtSchool‘ or MCAS for short has started well with Year 7 who now have access. As mentioned previously, we have taken the advice from the experts and will be rolling out the MCAS login process as follows in September:

New Year 7
New Year 11 and Year 13
New Year 9, Year 10 and Year 12

MCAS will provide you with access to your son’s/ daughter’s timetable, attendance, and behaviour information. Each of these areas will give data in some detail, so that you will be able to see how your son/daughter is performing and progressing at school. We will be adding additional modules next year.

Also included is an additional system for directly contacting the school to update your details, informing us of changes in circumstances and to make further enquiries.
NB. If you have a children in two different year groups, you may only be able to see one child’s details, until all the years have been rolled out. However, once MCAS is fully set up, you will only need one username/password to see all your children. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office in the usual way.
