News from Mr Ramsey

Verulam Road Safety

I would like to remind parents to be super vigilant when driving on the roads surrounding the school.  There was unfortunately an accident this morning involving a car hitting a parent and her child on their way to school.  Thankfully this incident was not serious.

The roads surrounding the school are narrow and parked cars often make observations difficult if not impossible.  I would be particularly grateful if parents would not park on double yellow lines, road junctions and on the no stopping zigzag zone outside the school.

Teens Mental Health and Wellbeing Conference

I would like to draw parents’ attention to an emotional wellbeing conference organised in May for pupils and parents in St Albans.  Teenagers’ wellbeing is a growing concern with national data showing us that up to 1 in 5 teenagers suffer from some form of mental health issue and that the number self harming is increasing.

The  “Happy Teen Wellbeing” conference is on 4th May in St Albans – see flyer attached.

Happy Teens Wellbeing Weekender is a day-long conference being held to support parents,

grandparents, carers, professionals and teachers as well as the teens themselves, to give the latest information on youth wellbeing, as well as offer support, advice, guidance and help on how to navigate those teenage years.

There will be workshops, talks and taster sessions from some of the leaders in youth wellbeing across Hertfordshire for parents, teens and professionals. There will also be a professional panel to take your questions and 1 to 1 support from professional exhibitors.  This will be a very informative day for everyone, ticket sales will support vital mental health charities in Hertfordshire.

Details of how to book tickets are on the flyer and there are limited early bird tickets available. There is also a link to ticket information here:  Alternatively, please email [email protected] or call 01992 446051.

Preparation for Easter Revision

Can I remind parents in Years 10, 11 and 13 that students should be finalising their Easter revision plans next week.  This should include the preparation of detailed revision plans which clearly identify the topic and task due to be studied in the particular session.  Students should also ensure that they gather  all the necessary materials, past papers, exercise and textbooks over the next week.

Headmaster’s commendations

This week’s commendations go to Christy Quirke for being a great ambassador for the school and to Jasper Robb for being a highly supportive friend.
