Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Presentation

On Tuesday evening, we celebrated the achievement of over fifty Year 11 boys who had completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze awards this summer. The ceremony was presided over by The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Robert Voss. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is the initiative of the Duke and the Crown, so it was fitting and a pleasure that the Lord Lieutenant, as the Queen’s personal representative in the County, was able to come to present the awards. He was also able to give us a brief insight of his busy and varied role representing the Queen in our county.

Parent Governors Election

As there have been numerous nominations for the two parent governor positions, an election will be held next week. We will send all parents a ballot paper on Thursday 22nd November which should be returned by 3pm on Thursday 29th November.

Anti-Bullying Week

This week’s assemblies led by Mrs Nelson and Mr Tromans have focussed on preventing and addressing bullying and choosing to respect others. The key message was:

  • The importance of having regard for the feelings, wishes and rights of others;
  • that bullying is a behaviour choice and that you can choose not to do it;
  • that you can respectfully disagree with people and don’t always have to share the same opinion; and
  • that we must all respect each other in our safer place interactions and online.

The assemblies concluded by reminding all pupils of the importance of talking to others when you are upset or vulnerable and in particular, talking to parents or one of the pupil’s 5 Fingers of Faith.

We also reminded pupils that they can seek help outside of school via the NSPCC helpline 0800 1111 or by visiting www.kooth.com or visiting/phoning YouthTalk St Albans on 01727 868684. Parents and pupils can also alert us to any concerns they may have by emailing us [email protected]

Headmaster’s Commendations

This week I would like to congratulate the following Year 7 boys for outstanding effort and dedication shown in the Roman Army and Shield project in History: Freddy Durbridge, Vinnie Ogden, Yunus Zaman, Roan Hoggarth, Ben Browning, Sam Bradbury; and Finnlay Hayes in Year 8, for entering a competition and creating a cake based on WW1 and the trenches.
