Hate Crime Conference

On 15th October 2018, a group of 12 prefects attended an educational Hate Crime Conference at the Hertfordshire Police HQ in Welwyn Garden City led by Mr Flack. It was a conference that discussed how hate crime affected young people and the role of the police in society. We were told about the 5 types of hate crime: race, religion, disability, gender identify and sexual orientation.

As a group we discussed these topics and talked about how seeing these crimes made us feel and how we could try to prevent instances of this happening. We invited the police to come to Verulam and speak to more students, which they were really pleased about.

We finally took a tour around the police HQ, seeing the call room which was really interesting and learnt how the 999 and 101 calls are processed.
