Verulam Charitable Trust
At Verulam we believe our students deserve a first class education that equips them to become confident, responsible and articulate young people who can succeed in their personal and professional lives.
We are committed to developing young people who, when they leave our school, are fully rounded individuals with a host of skills and experiences that equip them for the many opportunities and challenges they will face in life.
Our ethos seeks to develop a sense of self-worth by offering a breadth of subjects, and a range of extra-curricular activities ensuring that every student here finds their own ‘niche’ and succeeds to the best of his own physical and intellectual ability. Our goal is to provide excellence in everything that we do.
To achieve these aims your child will be encouraged to participate in our hugely popular Extra-Curricular enrichment programme which consists of a range of activities including music, sport, drama, clubs and societies such as Art and Multi-Media. This will enhance their education and in the lower school will help him form lasting friendships with students with similar interests.
All of us at Verulam School are passionate about providing the best facilities and a high-quality learning environment for your child and I urge you to get involved and support us. It is only with the continued dedication and commitment of all our staff, the support and generosity of parents, our PTA and our Alumni that we can provide this all round excellence and help your son achieve his potential.
The Verulam Charitable Trust (VCT) was established to support Verulam School in its goal of helping your son or daughter to achieve excellence. Developing a sense of self-worth in our pupils depends not just on what happens in the classroom. It is crucial that we maintain commitments to our wide ranging extra-curricular and sporting offer so that every student finds their own ‘niche’ and succeeds to the best of their own abilities. Our enrichment activities are accessible to all rather than based on ability to pay and we will continue this as an integral part of Verulam’s ethos.
Funding challenges make us more reliant than ever on the involvement and support of our community. It is only with the continued dedication of all our staff, the support and generosity of parents, grandparents, our PTA and our Alumni that we can continue to provide the opportunities we aspire to and help your son or daughter achieve their potential.
If we can demonstrate that we have our own source of funds from committed supporters, it makes it far easier to approach statutory bodies and Trusts and Foundations for additional funding for projects to improve facilities. Many funders like to be able to ‘match-fund’ monies already raised in this way.
ABOUT THE VERULAM CHARITABLE TRUST
Verulam Charitable Trust (VCT) is the School’s own charity set up to receive donations in a tax efficient way, helping to make you gift go further. It is registered with the Charity Commission (charity number 1148591).
The Government’s Gift Aid scheme allows us to reclaim tax on donations, which means that for every £1 you give to VCT, we can reclaim 25p from the Inland Revenue. All the monies received will be used to add value to your son or daughter’s education, giving them opportunities to flourish in ways that Verulam School would not otherwise be able to afford.
You just need to confirm that you are a UK taxpayer and are happy for us to reclaim the tax that you have already paid.
The extra money we get through gift aid may not seem very much, but if everyone gives this way it all adds up and enables us to do far more.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We ask our parents, grandparents and wider community to consider making a monthly or single donation to the Verulam Charitable Trust. We know that for some this is difficult and might not be achievable every month, but we ask you to please give what you feel able to.
Your donation will go towards the extra-curricular programme which sets the school apart as well as investing in improvements in our sporting and academic facilities. Detailed fundraising plans and progress against these aims will be reported upon each year so that you can see how the money raised has been spent in a transparent way. Every pound is put back into the School for the benefit of students to make a real and immediate difference to their education and wellbeing.
Previous donations to the VCT have funded in full the refurbishment of the science laboratory which now houses our popular STEM club, google chrome computers for the library, laptops for the sixth form, i-pads for art, raspberries pi computers and outside furniture.
If your child is coming to the end of their journey at Verulam, they may not directly benefit from planned projects, but we ask you to think about the opportunities they have had and consider leaving a ‘legacy donation’.
