News from Mr Ramsey

I have written to all parents today regarding our recent Ofsted inspection but thought it worthwhile to reproduce the letter in this week’s Verulam Voice.

I am writing to give you further information about the Ofsted inspection which we received on Tuesday from her Majesty’s Inspector for the East of England, John Daniell. The inspector met with pupils, staff, the leadership team and governors. He also observed a wide range of lessons, lesson changeovers, lunch and break.

The report will make a judgement about Safeguarding and will comment on the related areas of Leadership and Management, and Pupil Development, Behaviour and Welfare.

I was immensely proud of the way in which your sons and daughters conducted themselves. They are clearly proud to be members of Verulam School and their good manners, consideration for others and intellect was clearly demonstrated.

I was pleased with the inspection and look forward to the report which will be published within the next 20 working days. As soon as it is received, I will write to all parents with the report which will also be available on the School website.

I would like to congratulate Sue Barford and the canteen team for gaining a 5* food hygiene certificate for the sixth year in a row.

Lake District Trip

7BCH departed early this morning for the Lakes and I am sure they will have a challenging but fantastic time. Parents will find updates on their progress on the Verulam Facebook page.

Headmaster’s commendations

This week I would like to congratulate James Lynch 7Y and Dylan Brookes 7Y on their enthusiasm and dedication to Verulab.

Verulab Bug Hotel, open for business!

Verulam School St albans Hertfordshire

This week at Verulab ECCO club, the Year 7 and 8 scientists have been busy putting together a bug hotel with the help of Miss Howells, Mr Ellis, Mrs Furse, Mr Knowles and Mr Andrews.

This project looks at providing a new space for insects to inhabit as part of our project to increase our bee, butterfly and bug populations. This will also provide the boys with an area to study the wide variety of bugs that live in the area.

The hotel was created from recycled materials, including pallets, bricks, leaves and old roof tiles. A very big well done for all the boys that helped create this bug haven!

Future Verulab projects include introducing lavender and other bee friendly plants in the area, clearing of the pond to study the ecosystems that live there, and building a scarecrow.
