The Exams Issue!

This week I presented key information about public examinations to pupils in years 10-13 during assemblies.  Mrs Armstrong, the Exams Officer, will be sending the presentation to parents via parentmail, but I also felt it important to highlight some key information.

  • All pupils have been issued with an exam timetable—we suggest parents also keep a copy
  • As all exams start at 9.00am or 1.45pm, we suggest pupils should be in school by 8.30am or 1.30pm
  • Any pupil who thinks they should be late, should immediately contact the school on 01727 766100
  • Similarly, if a pupil is unwell or has a crisis at home, please inform us as soon as possible so that we can help or apply for special consideration.
  • Pupils who have access arrangements (e.g. extra time) will be issued with an identification card which they must bring to every exam and place on their desk.
  • Miss Hart, the SENCO will be issuing these shortly and will be emailing parents separately.
  • The rules for public examinations are very clear and exam boards treat any infringements severely. For instance, merely bringing a mobile phone or revision notes into an exam room will most likely lead to disqualification from the entire paper.
  • We have also warned pupils against writing after being instructed to stop, or writing on hands which will also be penalised.

Exam Results collection

A level results can be collected on Thursday 15th August between 9-00 and 12 noon. GCSE can be collected on Thursday 22nd August from 10.00am for Year 11 and from 11.00am for Year 10.

Results can be collected by the candidate, or the candidate’s nominee if they have submitted a letter to the Mrs Armstrong, the Exams Officer, authorising a responsible person to collect the results.

The school cannot issue results by email or telephone.

Results are available via the My Child At School portal after midday on each day.

We recommend that pupils collect results in person as staff can assist with any problems or queries including help with next steps.

Staff will be available to assist with Post Results enquiries on the day.

Headmaster’s commendations

This week I would like to commend Tristan Gilbert, Robert Evershed, Callum Pountain, Ryan Kennedy, Yamin Ahmed and Dylan Norman in Year 7 for their Earth project models and to Oliver Hope, Owen Chen, Callum Silcox, Salman Hakim, Ellis Koci, Edward Hale and Louis Walter in Year 8 for their Climate project models during  British Science week.  Well done boys.

Marathon Success for Oli Mills Foundation

A huge congratulations to Mike Toley who successful ran the London Marathon course backwards to raise money and awareness for the Oli Mills Teenage Cancer Trust.

He and a group of friends started at 2am in the early hours of Sunday morning. From there, they began to run the route of the London Marathon in reverse, starting at The Mall and finishing, 26.2 miles later, in Blackheath, south east London.  The group eventually made it over the finish line just before 7am and it was quite emotional, especially for Eddie (Founder of the Oli Mills Foundation set up in memory of his brother, a former pupil at Verulam). One of the other runners in the group had gone out and got them all a medal with The Oli Mills Foundation Backward Marathon engraved on them and presented them to us at the finish line, which was the real marathon’s start line in Blackheath.

The Justgiving link have already raised £6k for this event, which puts the school’s contribution to the OMF at a figure of £50,000.  A big thank you to anyone who has sponsored us so far, however the Justgiving page is still open if anyone wishes to still donate. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sdrawkcabnodnol
