Alumnus Spotlight – Harrison Smith SACFC
Harrison Smith left Verulam in 2021 and now plays for St Albans City Football Club.
Please tell us a little about yourself – where do you work and how did you get into this role?
My name is Harrison Smith and I am a former Verulam pupil. I spent 5 years at Verulam from year 7 to 11 until I went into full time football. I currently play for St Albans City where I train three times a week and run my own business called ‘Bootproof’, selling smell proof boot bags for your smelly boots!
What are some of your proudest achievements since leaving Verulam School?
Some of my proudest achievements since leaving Verulam school are recovering from two ACL reconstructions then signing my professional contract and making my EFL league one debut for Stevenage FC.
What advice would you give someone looking to follow a similar career path?
The advice I would give to someone following my path is, there is no secret to success, you have to be willing to put unconditional hours into your craft to become the best, and to always have that edge to believe in yourself when others won’t.
How have your experiences at Verulam School contributed to your life and successes since leaving school?
My experiences at Verulam winning County Cups, District Cups, Athletics Trophies and getting to the National Schools’ Elite Final all helped to fuel my passion to go and win more!
What House were you in at Verulam School and can you describe one of your fondest memories?
My form was York, and my fondest memory at Verulam was winning every district and county cup from year 7 to 11 (apart from the Covid year) and getting to the national schools final to play at West Brom’s stadium in front of everyone!
