Year 9 Football News

Year 9 started their campaigns in both the county cup as holders and a new competition, the elite national cup which allows all 5 of our academy footballers in that year to play together.

The county cup game against Bushey Academy started off well with a superbly whipped in cross by Vinny Clarke and powerful header to match by Uthmaan Khan for his first goal for the school. Sadly, the lead did not last long as Bushey Academy’s Watford Academy goalkeeper who was playing outfield curled a ball in directly from a corner to make the score 1-1. The second half saw a great goal from Tomas Galvez, the man of the match, however 5 minutes from time was where Galvez secured this award with an unreal first touch on the edge of his own area under pressure then the pass of the game into Vinny Clarke’s path before he laid the ball in into Harrison Shaw’s path before he roofed the ball into the net to make it 3-1.

The boys must have been spurred on by Friday’s win as they went into the elite national cup round one against Monks Walk with the bit in their teeth. The front line led by Harrison Smith who scored a hatrick in the first half with Harrison Shaw also getting onto the score sheet. The second half saw much of the same with a further two goals from Harrison Shaw to secure his hatrick and a goal from Vinny Clarke for his first of the season. However, it was man of match Harrison Smith who kept the bit in his teeth scoring a further 4 goals in the second half to make it 7 in one game for him and 11 in 2 matches! A superb 11-2 win in the first round.
