Premiership football team show their support of Verulam U14’s in their National Cup Final while they strive to win the FA cup

Verulam boys school U14 Team have less than two weeks until they travel to West Bromich Albion FC football stadium ‘The Hawthorns’ as the first team from Hertfordshire to ever reach the final of the ESFA National Elite Cup. This has come as local premiership side Watford have reached the FA cup Final. Watford FC have shown their support of local Hertfordshire School Verulam Under 14’s with a letter signed by Watford striker Troy Deeney, wishing them luck in their upcoming National Final. The U14 Team from Verulam have this year reached the dizzy heights of the final of the most prestigious National Cup in English Schools football.

The boys began to show promise in Year 7 winning all of their matches. As a consequence football coach Mr Ollie Giles took a chance and in Year 8 entered the team into the ESFA National Cup. They won the County Cup for the second year in a row and managed to reach the semi-finals of the National Cup (from a base of nearly a 1000 teams) where they were narrowly beaten by Cardinal Newman school from Brighton.

In Year 9 the boys have won their district cup final against Sir John Lawes the third county cup final in a row this time against Richard Hale and now have the National Elite final to look forward to. The team have played lots of great football and beaten some very prestigious schools along the way – many of which are
affiliated to football academies, train on a daily basis together and have truly outstanding facilities.

On 22nd May, the boys will travel up to West Brom ready for their 11.30am kick off on Thursday 23rd May against Thomas Telford School.

Verulam is a competitive sporting school providing great opportunities for its pupils and is very proud of the amazing achievement of this team.

The squad consists of Sam Hanks (GK), Charlie Taylor (captain), Kyrese Williams, Stanley Woodford (who sadly misses out due to a broken wrist he suffered in the county cup final), Dan O’Toole, Charlie McDonald, Tomas Galvez, William Andiyapan, Vinny Clarke, Harrison Smith, Harrison Shaw, Dominic Ward, Frankie Ward, Kai Neill, Uthmaan Khan, Paulo Overton, Ben Collison, Elliot Johnson and coach Mr Ollie Giles.
