News from Mr Ramsey

Feeling Good

I would like to thank Mrs Harrison for her work in organising Feeling Good week. Both pupils and staff have been participating in enjoyable and unusual activities throughout the week which has had both a positive impact on the school and on learning.
Parents also took the opportunity to join in when they attended a presentation on promoting resilience within your son or daughter by Dr Kathy Weston on Wednesday evening.

“A brilliant two hours, thank you for organising it. According to my husband, the best talk at a school ever.”
This was followed by an excellent session on Thursday morning to all the Sixth Form on building their own resilience. Dr Weston then trained Year 12 students to act as peer mentors for younger pupils.

Engaging Mind Lecture, Holocaust survivor Hannah Lewis

Today the Sixth Form were privileged to hear the testimony of Hannah Lewis whose story is both terrifying and inspirational. A brief biography is featured on the final page. This lecture is part of our ongoing work as a Holocaust Education Beacon school in which both pupils and staff are trained in Holocaust education.

House Assemblies – Stonewall Homophobia Awareness

As part of our post Ofsted action, we are introducing House assemblies every half term where all the pupils from one House meet together.
This week Mr Dannie focused on the harmful affects of derogatory and discriminatory language and in particular of homophobic abuse. Pupils watched a thought-provoking video on standing up to homophobic bullying which can be accessed here: This issue will be followed up next week during form time.

Footballing success

Congratulations to the Year 8 football team who beat Aldenham in the semi final of the County Cup. This team has reached the Hertfordshire County Cup final for the second year running. I would also like to wish the team the very best of luck in the National Cup quarter final which is held today.

Headmaster’s Commendations

This week I would like to reward Jed Lumb and Joe Button for their excellent research and presentations in assemblies and to thank all the staff who have given their free time to support Feeling Good Week.
