News from Mr Ramsey

Duke of Edinburgh Award Success

I was delighted this week that a number of ex-Verulam students were presented with their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards at Buckingham Palace.

Luke Gibbins, who is currently studying Film Production at the University of Portsmouth, was presented with his award on Monday by the Earl of Wessex. Luke was delighted to meet two fellow ex-Verulam pupils James Mee and Ross Leopold who were receiving their awards. Rhys Armstrong of Year 13 also received his award.

On Wednesday, Mr Toley was also invited to a Buckingham Palace garden party to recognise his contribution to the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme over the last 20 years. It is remarkable that the current staff leading our award scheme were themselves pupils who benefitted from this experience whilst at Verulam.
I am extremely grateful to all the staff involved in the DofE scheme who give so much of their free time to help our pupils enjoy the challenges and rewards involved.
I would also like to offer my best wishes to all the Year 10 pupils who are about to embark on their Bronze practice expeditions. Over 100 of them will be hiking and camping in the Chilterns in the coming weeks before taking part in their final expeditions to the New Forest.

Caring job opportunity

For over five years, pupils from the Lower Sixth at Verulam have taken advantage of a job opportunity with a local family caring for a young man with cerebral palsy. This is a wonderful chance to take up highly rewarding paid work which would also be impressive on a university application.
If your son is in Year 11 and is interested in this part time job, please contact Ms K Bonass who can put you in contact with the current incumbent who is seeking a replacement before he leaves for university.

Parent Survey 2019

If you have not yet completed our parents’ survey, I would be very grateful if you could take the time to do so at:

Mrs Harrison

After many years of distinguished service at this school, Mrs Harrison is relocating to Devon at Whitsun. Mr Flack will become the Designed Senior Person for safeguarding and child protection.

My farewell to Mrs Harrison will be included in next week’s Verulam Voice.
