Parent Survey 2019

Over the next two weeks I am inviting all parents to give us their views of Verulam using Ofsted’s online parental survey. Completing the survey takes only a couple of minutes, but the information we can gather is extremely useful in planning our whole school development.

I will be discussing the results with governors and school leaders to see where we can improve. I would be very grateful if you could take the time to complete this brief survey

Verulam ECO Committee

The school is keen to ensure we are doing our part in educating pupils about dangers to the environment and the problem of protecting the planet whilst creating a sustainable economy.

This year we have therefore formed an ECO Committee which is endeavouring to put theory into practice at Verulam. So far this year, the committee has:

  • introduced green bins for plastic bottle and can recycling
  • are in the process of placing bins for paper recycling in each class room
  • they also plan to upcycle felled timber into bird boxes, tables and chairs.
  • I would like to congratulate Aidan Chester, Finlay Killner and Ben Hawker from Year 10 and Ed Mann from the Lower Sixth who have led this initiative. Anyone who wishes to take part in their work is welcome to join them on Mondays at 12.45pm in S2.

Sustainability Festival 2019

Parents may also be interested in this year’s Sustainability Fair starting on 11th May. There are a lot of free activities for everyone. Events are across Harpenden and St Albans

Headmaster’s commendations

This week I would like to commend Aidan Chester in Year 10 for his incredible dedication to helping with the green bins as part of our Verulam ECO Committee projects.
