News from Mr Ramsey

Best wishes for the Easter holiday

I would like to thank staff for all their hard work and commitment in what has been a very busy term.  I am sure both they and pupils will enjoy the Easter break.

I appreciate that many students in Years 10-13 will be engaged with revision and I would like to wish them the very best of luck.  The hours they invest now will bring rewards in the summer.

Behaviour for Learning Review

One of the school’s key aims is to continue to improve pupils’ behaviour and in particular to help them adopt positive traits of responsibility and consideration for others.  It is particularly important that they learn to self regulate when not directly supervised by staff.

Mr Flack will be carrying out a behaviour review in May with external support to measure the progress we have made this year and to identify areas for further improvement.  As part of this process we will once again be surveying parent and pupils’ views via online surveys.

Apprenticeship Evening

We held our first Apprenticeship information evening on Tuesday, which was a great success and packed out with over 220 students and parents in the main hall. Representatives from various companies offering Apprenticeships or offering ways into Apprenticeships set up in reception with displays and information and the hall earned its name. Mr Hall led the evening, explaining the routes into different levels of Apprenticeships. We heard from an Apprenticeship agency, from the Head of Degree Apprenticeships at Herts University and from 2 ex-Verulam students who have gone down the Apprenticeship route. The PowerPoint presentation will be put on the school website.

Headmaster’s commendations

This week I would like to commend Elliott Johnson in 9H who obtained a place in the National cross country race; to Thomas Heath in 9H for competing in the U15 international world championships for sabre fencing and Abdelrahmene Denai in 11P for being an Ambassador for the School.  Well done boys.
