Foil Fencing News

Alex Culkin took part in the British Youth Fencing Championship in Sheffield and performed really well in his first year at the U16 Level for foil fencers.

Out of the 60 qualifiers, Alex managed to win all his fights in the first phase, meaning that he was seeded 8th going into the Knockout Stage. He eventually lost out to a Year 11 boy who is also an Italian International.

He finished 10th overall. The points won has left him ranked No. 2 in England for one of 8 places up for grabs in the 2020 England U17 squad.

Next up, it’s the England Youth Championships (U15), which thankfully takes place at the Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield. England follows odd ages (U11, U13 & U15), while British Competitions are even ages (U12, U14, U16 & U18).
