Art Trip – GCSE groups – Nov 2018

Verulam School St Albans Hertfordshire

The Verulam Art department of years 10 & 11 set out to London on the 21st November 2018. Driving by coach into central London, the first stop was the world renowned National Portrait Gallery. There, students split up into different rooms to study and research the artworks. They were asked to make sketches of their chosen artworks and complete for homework. The students thoroughly enjoyed going around the museum, taking in the spectacular portraits the museum had to offer, spanning from historic Tudor work to modern 21st Century work.

Next stop was the Tate Britain which had a wider range of specifically British artwork in the form of sculptures and abstract work. A quick lunch break was taken first, then the adventure began! Students scoured the numerous Art halls the museum had to offer, and again focussed on two pieces of Art which related to their area of study. It was a very good opportunity to appreciate and admire the work on display, first hand.

All the students thoroughly enjoyed the day and benefited from the experience.
