DfE Performance Tables—Provisional

The provisional Key Stage 4 performance tables were released this week. Our data can be found at:

https://www.gov.uk/school-performance-tables

We hope that our already pleasing +0.20 Progress 8 score will improve in the final table which will include a significant number of successful remarks and that the final performance tables will rate our performance as above average.

Alban Way Petition

The Alban Way provides an excellent cycle and footpath away from the dangers of the roads. However, it has been the site of a number of violent or criminal incidents in the last year. I would, therefore, like to bring to your attention to a petition to request more protection along the Alban Way. Click here to sign the Alban Way Petition

Jennings Road Parking Restrictions

We have been made aware that St Albans District council will be introducing parking restrictions along Jennings Road (which runs along the rear of the school) at some point in November or December. This will affect both Sixth Form student parking and parents. I am afraid that we are as yet unaware of the precise nature of these restrictions.

Headmaster’s Commendation

This week’s Headmaster’s commendations are awarded to Mahim Nosor; Sam Mistry; Dylan Labuda and Kieran McCarthy as they have just had their first test on the first 3 units of their A level course and done exceptionally well.

Also Jack Brenson for being an ambassador to the school stopping traffic to help a frightened horse that was in the road.

And finally, to Jamie Golding who has worked above and beyond expectations in Geography classwork.

Royal Representative attends Verulam School

November 13th will see Verulam graced by the presence of The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Robert Voss CBE. Her Majesty The Queen appointed Mr Robert Voss CBE as her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the County of Hertfordshire to succeed The Countess of Verulam who stepped down on 31 July 2017. The Lord Lieutenant will be congratulating the effort and commitment our pupils have put in throughout this year in order to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Award. The evening will see The Lord Lieutenant present each pupil with their completion certificate.

Abbey Service Friday 19th October 2018

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Annual Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication will be held on Friday 19th October 2018 at 2 pm, at The Cathedral and Abbey Church of St. Alban. This year’s theme is “Our Home” and we will be supporting the local charity Herts Young Homeless which works with vulnerable young people who are homeless or are at risk of becoming so.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all parents and carers to join us on what is a very special day for Verulam School. Please make yourself known on arrival. We plan for all guests to be seated by 1.45pm. The service will conclude by 3.00pm.
