PTA News

With only a week of the school year left, we would like to thank everyone who has helped at, supported or attended PTA events and activities this year – from quiz nights, the Winter Ball, uniform sales and the Verulam PTA lottery, to easyfundraising and serving refreshments at consultation evenings and concerts. In the last academic year we raised around £20,000 which has been invested in items requested by both staff and pupils, including 400 new lockers installed in the Xmas term and a library refurbishment which is due to take place over the Summer holidays.

We have a couple more events planned before the end of term:

Lunch Time BBQ today Friday 13th July: Following the success of this event last year we will be selling burgers (£2.50), hot dogs (£1.50), water, crisps and donuts.

PTA Lottery Draw: As always, the final draw of the lottery will include an additional bonus prize of £200. Winners will be notified by post. If you would like to participate in the lottery next year please see the application form on the PTA website or contact me at [email protected]

Dates for your diary next year:

Second Hand Uniform Sale – Saturday 8th September: We raised a fantastic £400 from sales of second hand uniform last Saturday, so thank you to volunteers, donators and customers alike. The next sale will be held from 10.30-11.30am in the school dining hall on Saturday 8th September. If you are having a clear out over the summer and have any good quality items of clothing that you don’t need, we can find them a new home.

Fresher’s Fair – September (date to be confirmed): The PTA will be available to serve refreshments and to welcome and meet the parents of our new Year 7 boys.

Open Morning – Saturday 29th September: We will be on hand to serve refreshments, including home-made cakes, to potential new students, their parents and our Year 7 helpers. We will need lots of help in the form of providing cakes (homemade or otherwise) and/or attending the morning – so if you are free and would like to help out, please put the date in your diary and look out for more information at the start of next term.

Quiz night – October date TBC: If you’d like to take on the teachers and test your general knowledge over a fish and chip supper, look out for confirmation and booking details for our next Quiz in October.

In the meantime we wish you all a relaxing and enjoyable Summer.

Outstanding learner from Verulam honoured

Outstanding learner from Verulam honoured at the Herts Adult Achievement Awards

We are delighted that Roxana Iscrulescu, who has been studying Maths at Verulam School for the last two years, has won an award at the 2018 Hertfordshire Adult Achievement Awards held at Hatfield House this week. The event was organised by Hertfordshire Adult and Family Learning Service (HAFLS), part of Hertfordshire County Council, to celebrate the work and achievement of both adults and young people who have taken part in community learning courses over the past year as well as tutors and mentors who have been helped to make an impact. Roxana achieved a Level 2 Maths qualification, ( which is equivalent to a GCSE pass) and is now planning to be a teaching assistant.

We will be offering Functional Skills classes in maths and English with HAFLs again in the Autumn Term. Please see our website www.bsv.courses.co.uk for more details and email [email protected] to enrol.
