News from Mr Ramsey

Pastoral Organisation

As Mrs Harrison is leaving I thought it would be helpful for parents to understand the pastoral structure for the rest of this academic year  and 2019/2020.

  • Mr Flack as Deputy Head Pastoral oversees the entire pastoral system.
  • Mr Tromans has been appointed as Pastoral Director with specific responsibility for attendance.
  • Mr Tansley has been appointed as Pastoral Director with specific responsibility for mental health and liaison with outside agencies including counselling, school family workers and Connexions.

Both will also remain as Heads of Year

  • Ms Moss remains our Pastoral Support Worker
  • Mr Newsome continues as our Behaviour Coordinator.

National Cup

Thomas Telford School 4-3 Verulam School

I would like to give my congratulations to the Year 9 football team on their superb performance in the National Cup.  Their comeback from 3-1 down was riveting and their conduct throughout the competition exemplary.  If you wish to watch the full match it can be found at:

 Mrs Harrison

Mrs Harrison departs from Verulam School today for a new life in the West Country.  I would like to thank her for her extraordinary contribution to the school during her 15 year service.  Mrs Harrison joined us as a newly qualified Maths teacher but soon claimed the additional responsibility as Head of Year 7.  Over a number of years she made this position her own and redefined this role.  After joining the Leadership Team, she continued to train and mentor a number of Heads of Year.  She also served as a teacher governor, mental health champion and has been a valued and stalwart colleague. I know many pupils and parents are grateful for her care and compassion.

Headmaster’s commendations

I would like to commend the following boys on being ambassadors for Verulam School.  They have been integral members of STEM club this year, helping to fundraise for WaterAid, campaigning to help our school community to understand the shortage of water in our region and representing our school in the Affinity Water final day of Challenge Water 2019.  Well done boys.

Year 7 – Ben Carlisle, Jack Gentleman, Tristan Gilbert, Nathan Hall, Angelo Hansen, Bobby Pickard, Ben Turnbull, Robert Evershed, Dominik Cofone, Oscar Hollingsworth, Jack Ritchie, Lewis Ritchie, Ailbe Tidd, Edward Browne, Kaleb Edwards, Tufayl Kasim.
