News from Mr Ramsey

A Grimm Tale?

On Monday evening I enjoyed a fantastic production of Grimm’s tales in the school hall. The cast of Year 7 –10 pupils did a fabulous job bringing to life a variety of fairy tales and injecting a very post modern brand of humour. I would also like to congratulate the director, Mr Wallace, who not only inspired the cast, but also designed the accompanying sound track. I look forward to seeing more of our excellent actors in the future.

Examinations and Ramadan

Muslim parents will realise that Ramadan is due to begin at the end of this half term. This, of course, presents particular problems for pupils who are taking public examinations.

Fortunately, a large number of GCSE examinations are scheduled to take place before the half term break. However, many GCSE and A level students will have to sit examinations during Ramadan.

Fasting can clearly have a detrimental affect on examination performance and students may wish to consider the importance of their studies when deciding how they will observe Ramadan this year. For instance, they may feel that on examination days they are permitted not to fast under the “hardship” rule and that they will make up the fast days at a later time.

Whatever decisions pupils make they should also ensure that they are well rested and hydrated as this is equally important as nutrition.

I would be grateful if parents could inform their Head of Year if their son or daughter is observing the fast.

Leaving Celebrations

Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly

This year we are introducing a new way of celebrating the end of Year 11 studies. A celebration assembly will take place on Friday 26th May at 12 pm. This will be an opportunity for us all to reflect on the 5 years that the boys have spent together as a year group during their time at Verulam and share some positive memories. The event will include a short presentation from a group of boys from each form, a speech from Mr Dannie and Mr Ramsey.

Upper Sixth Leavers’ Reception

Our Year 13 Leavers’ Reception will be held at 2.00pm on Friday 23rd June 2017 in the school hall. This is an opportunity to formally mark the completion of Year 13s time at Verulam; to celebrate their achievements and contributions to the school. It is an occasion for students, staff, parents and close relatives to mix informally and reminisce over drinks and a buffet. The afternoon ends around 3.30pm with formal farewell speeches from Alex Beard, School Captain, Zishaan Uddin, Head Boy, Mr Ramsey and Mr Skipper.
