Senior Prefect Team

I would like to congratulate the new Sixth Form Senior prefect team who take up their posts immediately.
A full list of appointments can be found overleaf, but I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the core leadership team:

Our new School Captain is Rob McKee who has had great success this year leading the Dragon’s Apprentice Team. Our new Head Girl Hana Walker made an excellent impression as soon as she arrived and impressed the whole school with her assemblies. Our Head Boy is James Lofts who has been a dedicated and resilient student during his time at Verulam.

I am also delighted to announce our 5 new Vice Captains: Mansi Mandalia who is a reading mentor, Ben Campbell who is looking after welfare, Tom Edwards who is in charge of assemblies, Jasmine Bethall in charge of canteen and Jed Lumb who is helping Year 7.

I would like to thank all the prefects who make an incredible contribution to the school.

Extra Curricular Success

Pupils enjoyed a more varied educational diet than usual this week due to curriculum enrichment day on Tuesday and the Year 9 Business Enterprise Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Year 8 enjoyed a day of technical, ICT and art challenges whilst Year 10 looked at their GCSE literature texts from new perspectives. Meanwhile, Year 11 enjoyed their final session of House games competitions whilst the Lower Sixth received advice on university applications.

A full report on the Year 7 Town Trail can be found overleaf.
Year 9 Business Enterprise Conference was a resounding success. The boys’ behaviour was exemplary and they received awesome praise from the delegates.

Headmaster’s Commendation

This week, I would like to commend Cooper Caminsky for his admirable service to the school by introducing street hockey to everyone. Street hockey is a mixture of ice hockey and hockey, but without the complicated rules.

Students have met every Wednesday lunchtime since September in the Sports Hall where 2 games are played. One is a round robin which results in a face off at the end. There are usually between 15 to 25 players from Year 7 to Year 9. Cooper is also training Asa Confrey from Year 12 as his assistant.

Maths Challenges update

FMSP Maths Feast

Four of our Year 10 students competed in the Year 10 Maths Feast earlier this week. The Maths Feast is a National Competition run by the Further Maths Support Programme. Our students worked as a team using their problem solving skills to answer some interesting questions. In one of the rounds they were even asked to build a 3D shape to meet certain criteria! The students worked exceptionally hard throughout the competition and we are very proud of their achievements.

Well done Jack Fitzpatrick, Alex Kouda, Ethan Phillips, Thomas Van Winden.

A big thank you to Kameron Salam in 10P who has volunteered to run an ECCO club at lunchtime in the Library every Wednesday between 1:10-1:30 to help Year 7 and Year 8 boys with their homework. He is doing this as part of his DofE.
