News from Mr Ramsey

Nine Lessons

I would like to congratulate all those involved in this year’s Nine Lessons and Carols. It was a splendid evening enjoyed by the appreciative audience. I am always impressed by how well our students read on these occasions and was delighted by the numerous performances.

Rewards Assemblies and Prize-Giving

Next week the normal school assemblies will be replaced by rewards assemblies. Mr Flack, has introduced these to publicly acknowledge pupils who have demonstrated excellence in curriculum subjects and the wider aspect of the school. Each subject has nominated two students per year, as well as, a form tutor award and special Head of Year award. Pupils will be presented with a certificate in recognition of this achievement, a copy of the certificate will be placed on our “Wall of Honour” situated outside the hall. We intend to run reward assemblies at the end of each term.

Next week, each year group (7 – 10) will have a rewards afternoon which recognises the students who have accumulated the most number of reward points during the first term of this year. We hope that the boys will enjoy these events and reflect positively on their achievements and motivate them to continue their successes.

On Tuesday evening we will also be welcoming back all last year’s Upper Sixth for our Senior Prize Giving with our guest of honour The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City and District of St Albans Councillor Rosemary Farmer.

Trial Examinations

I would like to congratulate our Year 11 for their hard work over the past 2 weeks in their trial examinations and to wish them well in completing a variety of pieces of coursework in Art and Technology along with a speaking exam for MFL in the final week of term.

Year 13 take their trial examinations in January and I have asked them to spend the next week planning their revision and examination practice. In their assembly this week, I challenged them to see if they could undertake up to 40-60 hours revision over the Christmas Break. Careful planning of this revision now will mean time well spent during the holidays.

Headmaster’s Commendation

This week I would like to commend Henry Gaskin in 7C and Edward Scanlan in 7B who braved the cold weather on the evening of 7th December to participate in the St Albans Sleep Out. Henry was able to raise £250 for Emmaus and Edward raised £775 for Herts Young Homeless. This a wonderful achievement by both boys – well done.

Also I would like to commend Adil Sharif in 10Y for his independent literature revision. Well done.
