Year 11 Trial Exams – 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

I am writing to inform you of the arrangements for the Year 11 Trial examinations which will take place from the 3rd to 20th of December.

Please find attached the examination timetable for students. There are a number of key points that I would like to draw to your attention:

Start times for exams need to be punctual, which means arriving well in advance to allow for registration and entering the examination room. Times can be seen on the timetable attached.

At the foot of the timetable are a series of rules and regulations students need to follow. These are the rules that must be followed in the summer so we use them now. This includes arriving equipped for an exam and using black ink or black biro. Students must hand in mobile phones prior to entering the exam hall, as was undertaken in the Year 10 exams. Failure to adhere to rules will lead to disqualification.

When your son does not have an exam, he is on study leave and will not need to be in school – this applies when he has no further exams for the day. Where he has a morning exam followed by an afternoon exam, he will remain in school. He will be supervised in a classroom and should bring revision materials.

From Monday 17th December to Thursday 20th December, various Controlled and Non Examination Assessments will be carried out. Individual subjects will contact you and your son in regard to these. As above, if your son is not required, he is on Study Leave.

If your son revises with care, these exams will give him an accurate indicator of his current performance and future prospects including sixth form application. Please give him all the help possible in doing so.

Results will be released on 15th January in the same format as the summer in order to prepare your son for that day. This means receiving all results at once, calculating his APS to determine what Post 16 options would be available to him.

Show My HomeWork will be used to share information regarding exam content. In terms of skills, weekly work plans have been presented and discussed with the students. Please talk to your son about this and how he can best prepare using the techniques he has been learning about – mind maps, note taking etc.

Most students have also been given a copy of ‘Revision cracked’ to aid in this process as well. A parents’ version will be available shortly.

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. If not I wish you and your son all the very busy of luck in the build up to this important stage in your son’s education. Yours sincerely

Mr M Toley
