For Parents

Excellence is the goal.

We aim to be an excellent school. Such a school needs a highly effective communication system. Parents need to have access to the school and feel consulted and involved in everything we do to improve learning.

How will we achieve our goal?

Reporting on progress.

You will receive five assessment reports a year, one of which will be the Verulam Full Report. All reports will include targets, which will be challenging and centrally set by the Senior Leadership Team. Online access to reports and progress will be an important feature for parents to keep in touch with student progress. The Parents Consultation Evening will provide a face to face opportunity with staff to discuss the progress of your child and have next steps targets and assessment for learning targets set.

Day to day parental contact.

All students have a planner. The planner contains many pages of useful information and the planner is used to record homework, advice and guidance from staff.  It is monitored by the form tutor and provides parents one method to communicate with the school. Our website gives parents a very clear contact map of email addresses for the staff you may need to contact.

Our website is very comprehensive and contains a huge amount of information.  You can click straight into email communications or into a number of other areas of interest. It is regularly updated and you can access all recent news stories by subscribing for free to our RSS feed.

Verulam Voice

Each Friday students receive a copy of our school newsletter. An online copy is on our website. It contains news, views, important announcements and all key dates.

Working with you – final word.

Many parents have spoken to us about Verulam having some special ingredient. Maybe all schools with our pedigree and tradition have this special ethos or way of doing things. It is seen in events like our Abbey Service when the whole school moves en masse down to town led by the prefects or the hugely successful fundraising for charity organised again by students. It is a sense that when you join Verulam you are joining a special community of learners. We are a school that transmits solid values of duty and leadership, as well as above national average examination results.  We embrace modern technology and the latest research to improve learning, at the same time as developing traditional core values which make all our students ambassadors for Verulam. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Verulam School.
