Irene has been an active member of Amnesty for over 30 years, she co chairs her local group and is responsible for campaigns regarding refugees and asylum seekers such as the I Welcome campaign.

A retired teacher and trainer, whose specialism is English for Speakers of other languages (ESOL), she has taught and managed ESOL and other programmes in Hertfordshire throughout her career.

Irene has campaigned tirelessly for human rights, particularly those of refugees and asylum seekers. She is currently the chair and trustee of Herts Welcomes Syrian families an organisation set up to help

and support Syrian and other Refugee families resettling in Hertfordshire. She is also a trustee for the National Association for Teaching English and Community Languages, the professional organisation for ESOL teachers in the UK.
