Economics and Business subjects are very popular options at Verulam which are studied in Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13. Students enjoy these subjects as they give them an insight into the real world, equips them with valuable knowledge and understanding and enables them to develop the essential skills of analysis and evaluation.

Key Stage 4
Economics and Business courses offered in Year 10 and Year 11 are as follows;
- OCR GCSE Economics (assessed by 2 x external examinations at the end of Y11).
- OCR GCSE Business (assessed by 2 x external examinations at the end of Y11).
- BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Enterprise (assessed by 2 x pieces of coursework in Y10 and an external examination in Year 11).
Weekly home learning tasks are set on ‘Show My Homework’ by class teachers or the head of department.
All Y10 and Y12 students who study one of our subjects can take part in the annual student investor challenge. Y10 BTEC Enterprise students take part in an annual trade fair event where they showcase and pitch their business ideas to other students from the lower school. Y10 students can attend a talk by an outside speaker on careers in finance and sixth form students get a chance to attend a guided tour of the financial district of the City of London.
Where can Economics & Business subjects take you?
Many Economics & Business students go onto study our subjects at undergraduate level and beyond as well as entering careers in banking, finance, the wider business world and roles in the public sector.
