The core curriculum at Verulam School is Maths, English and Science.   The English Baccalaureate includes the core curriculum plus a Modern Language and either History or Geography.

Key Stage 3

In Year 7 students study the following:  English, Maths, Science, Technology, Art, Drama, Geography, History, Music, Religious Studies, Physical Education, ICT, French and Personal Educational Learning.   Maths is taught in sets in Year 7.  Art and Technology work within a rota, all other subjects are taught in form groups.

In Year 8 the subjects remain the same.  Some students will now study Spanish and French.  Setting continues in Maths and is introduced in Modern Languages and English.

In Year 9 setting is introduced in Science.  From January in Year 9 the core subjects begin to teach GCSE.

In Years 10 and 11 students study one of our three Pathways.

All students do Religious Studies, Games, ICT Skills and Personal Education Learning.  All students will complete Core Science in Year 10 and then in Year 11 complete either Additional Science (2 Science GCSEs), Further Additional (3 Science GCSEs) or OCR National Science which is equivalent to 2 GCSE Science grades.

The White Pathway is the GCSE English Baccalaureate pathway.   On this pathway  students  study:  English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science, Religious Studies, History or Geography, Technology, one Modern Foreign Language and then an option choice.

The Blue Pathway is the GCSE pathway.   On this pathway students study:  English Language, English Literature, Maths, French, Technology, Religious Studies, Science and then two option choices.

The Yellow Pathway is the GCSE/BTEC pathway.  On this pathway students study:  English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science, Religious Studies , Technology and extra English/Maths instead of a Modern Foreign Language.   Students will also study one BTEC and then have one option choice.

The full option choice subjects are:  Art, Business Studies, Economics, PE, Drama, Music, Geography, History, Food Technology, Graphics, Resistant Materials, Electronics, ICT, BTEC Level 2 Sport, BTEC Level 2 Business.

At Key Stage Five we are part of the BSV Consortium.  This consortium offers the following subjects at AS and A2:  Art, Biology, Business studies, Chemistry, Economics, English Language and Literature, English Literature,  French, Maths, Further Maths, Media Studies, PE, Philosophy and Ethics, Photography, Physics, Product Design, Psychology, Sociology, Applied Science, Dance, Drama, Government and Politics, ICT, Music, Music Technology Textiles and Spanish.  We also offer BTEC Level 3 in Business, Sport and Performing Arts.  A fuller breakdown of all these subjects can be found on the BSV Website:
